PATNA, Bihar — June 3, 2026
Khan Sir Coaching Center Shooting has sparked concern across Bihar after unidentified assailants opened fire at the popular coaching institute operated by educator Khan Sir in Patna’s Musallahpur Haat area, injuring a security guard and triggering a major police investigation.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 2, 2026, in one of Patna’s busiest educational hubs. According to preliminary information, the attackers allegedly fired multiple rounds at the coaching center before fleeing the scene. The sudden attack caused panic among students, local residents, and business owners in the area.
Authorities confirmed that a private security guard stationed at the institute sustained serious injuries during the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said the injured guard remains under medical care.
Police Launch Investigation, Examine CCTV Footage
Following the shooting, senior officers from the Patna Police, including top district officials, arrived at the scene. The area was quickly secured, and forensic teams began collecting evidence, including spent bullet casings and other material relevant to the investigation.
Police have also started reviewing CCTV footage from the coaching center and surrounding roads to identify the attackers and trace their movements before and after the incident.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma said investigators are treating the case as a serious criminal attack. Statements from the injured security guard and local witnesses are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe.
Officials have not yet announced any arrests.
Rivalry Within Coaching Industry Under Scrutiny
Investigators are reportedly examining whether the attack could be linked to competition within Patna’s highly competitive coaching sector.
According to police sources, initial findings suggest that a dispute involving coaching operators may be one of the possible angles under investigation. However, authorities emphasized that all leads are being examined and no final conclusions have been reached.
Law enforcement officials stated that identifying the attackers remains the immediate priority and that multiple investigative teams are working on the case.
Khan Sir Alleges Previous Threats
Following the incident, Khan Sir publicly condemned the attack and claimed that his institute had previously faced threats.
He alleged that individuals involved in the attack entered the premises, damaged property, and targeted the center because of its growing popularity and affordable fee structure. According to Khan Sir, the injured security guard was able to recognize some of the attackers, and CCTV footage has been handed over to police.
He also called on authorities to provide stronger security measures for educational institutions and students.
The allegations made by Khan Sir have not been independently verified, and police have not officially confirmed the identities of any suspects.
Who Is Khan Sir?
Known to millions of students across India simply as Khan Sir, educator Faisal Khan operates the coaching institute Khan Global Studies, which provides preparation for competitive examinations including UPSC, BPSC, SSC, Railway, Banking, and Defense recruitment tests.
Khan Sir has built a massive following through classroom teaching and digital educational content. His teaching style, which simplifies complex topics using relatable examples and local language references, has attracted students from across the country.
One of the major reasons for his popularity is the institute’s low-cost education model, which makes exam preparation accessible to students from economically weaker and middle-income backgrounds.
Second Major Attack in Seven Years
The latest shooting has revived memories of an earlier attack on the same coaching center.
In May 2019, unidentified individuals reportedly targeted the institute in a crude bomb attack that caused property damage and created panic among students. At the time, police linked the incident to a dispute involving a student and a security guard.
However, Khan Sir had maintained that the earlier attack was connected to commercial rivalry within the coaching sector.
The latest shooting marks the second major security incident involving the institute in seven years, raising concerns about safety at educational centers that attract large numbers of students.
Investigation Continues
Patna Police have intensified security in the Musallahpur Haat area while continuing their search for those responsible. Authorities say forensic evidence, surveillance footage, and witness testimony will play a crucial role in identifying the suspects.
Officials have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.
As of Wednesday, no organization or individual had claimed responsibility for the attack, and police have not officially confirmed a motive.
