WASHINGTON, D.C. — May 15, 2026
U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized the previous administration of Joe Biden, saying Chinese President Xi Jinping was “100% right” in describing America as a nation in decline during Biden’s presidency.
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump argued that the United States suffered major setbacks during Biden’s four years in office, blaming what he described as weak border policies, rising crime, high taxes and controversial social policies.
Trump Blames Biden-Era Policies for US Decline
Trump said Xi’s earlier remarks about America’s decline referred specifically to the Biden administration’s handling of domestic and economic issues.
“When President Xi Jinping very politely said that the United States was a nation in decline, he was referring to the tremendous damage done during four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and his administration — and he was 100% correct,” Trump wrote.
The president criticized several Biden-era policies, including immigration management, trade agreements and diversity initiatives.
Trump also attacked diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and repeated criticism of policies involving transgender participation in women’s sports, issues that have remained central to his political messaging.
Trump Claims Economic Recovery Under His Administration
Trump said the United States has experienced what he called “unprecedented growth” during the first 16 months of his current administration.
He pointed to rising stock market performance, retirement savings growth, increased foreign investment and job creation as signs of economic strength.
According to Trump, the country has shifted from economic uncertainty to rapid expansion in a short period.
He also praised what he described as military successes abroad and improving diplomatic relations with several countries, including Venezuela.
Trump Signals Stronger US-China Relations
Despite his criticism of past policies, Trump struck a more optimistic tone regarding future ties with China.
He said he hopes relations between Washington and Beijing will become “stronger and better than ever before.”
Trump also claimed that Xi Jinping congratulated him on what he described as the administration’s rapid achievements and policy successes.
“Two years ago, our country truly was heading toward decline,” Trump said. “But now the United States is the strongest and fastest-growing nation in the world.”
Political Debate Intensifies Ahead of Key Policy Battles
Trump’s remarks are expected to fuel ongoing political debates in Washington over immigration, economic management, social policies and U.S.-China relations.
The comments also highlight the increasingly confrontational political rhetoric surrounding the Biden administration’s legacy as Trump continues to promote his economic and foreign policy agenda.
Neither Biden representatives nor Chinese officials immediately responded publicly to Trump’s latest comments.
