Moscow, Russia — March 31, 2026

Russia has issued a strong warning against expanding the ongoing Middle East conflict, cautioning that involving Gulf nations could significantly destabilize the region.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that dragging Gulf countries into what he described as “someone else’s war” would be extremely dangerous and could escalate instability across West Asia.

Russia Emphasizes Sovereignty of Gulf States

Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Gulf nations, stressing that any form of attack against them would be unacceptable.

He warned that expanding the conflict beyond its current scope could have severe geopolitical and economic consequences, particularly for energy markets and regional security.

Warning Against Targeting Civilian Infrastructure

The Russian foreign minister also strongly condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure, including facilities related to electricity, water supply, and energy.

Such strikes, he said, directly harm civilian populations and worsen humanitarian conditions, making the situation increasingly volatile.

Escalating Tensions in West Asia

The warning comes amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions over the past month. The current phase of conflict began on February 28, following military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which triggered retaliatory responses targeting U.S. allies and Israeli interests.

Since then, the region has witnessed a series of attacks and counterattacks, raising fears of a broader regional war.

Russia Criticizes US and Israel

Lavrov placed responsibility for the crisis on both the United States and Israel, describing their actions as “unprovoked and unjustified aggression.”

He emphasized that the only viable path forward lies in diplomacy and dialogue, urging all parties to consider the interests of every nation involved.

Call for Immediate Ceasefire

Russia concluded its statement with a call for an immediate ceasefire, highlighting the growing humanitarian toll of the conflict.

Lavrov stressed that continued violence is causing severe hardship for civilians and warned that without urgent diplomatic intervention, the crisis could spiral further out of control.

Global Implications

Analysts note that Russia’s stance reflects broader concerns about a widening conflict that could disrupt global energy supplies and international stability.

As tensions remain high, diplomatic efforts are expected to intensify in the coming days, with global powers closely monitoring developments in the region.
