Weather Update: Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail Alerts Across India as Monsoon Nears Kerala
Weather Update: India is expected to witness significant changes in weather conditions over the coming days as the southwest monsoon moves closer to Kerala and multiple regions prepare for rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather activity is likely to intensify across northern, northeastern, central and southern parts of the country, bringing relief from the intense summer heat in several states.
The latest forecast suggests that favorable conditions have developed for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon, with Kerala expected to receive monsoon rains within the next 24 hours. Meteorologists have also indicated that atmospheric conditions remain supportive for monsoon progression over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea and parts of the Bay of Bengal.
Monsoon Set to Advance Over Kerala
The IMD has said that the southwest monsoon is on the verge of advancing into Kerala, marking a crucial phase in India’s annual rainy season. The arrival of the monsoon is expected to improve weather conditions in several regions and provide much-needed relief from soaring temperatures.
Weather experts believe that favorable wind patterns and moisture levels are supporting the monsoon’s advance, increasing the likelihood of widespread rainfall activity over southern India in the coming days.

Landslides Disrupt Traffic in Arunachal Pradesh
Heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides and debris accumulation along the Akajan-Likabali-Bame road in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, temporarily disrupting transportation.
The road serves as a critical connection between Lower Siang, Leparada, West Siang and Upper Subansiri districts.
Officials reported blockages near Siji, Hathi Nallah and the Brahmaputra View Point, affecting vehicle movement to and from upper districts. Local authorities quickly deployed earthmovers and excavation equipment to clear the debris, restoring traffic movement by the afternoon.
However, officials have urged residents to remain vigilant as continued rainfall may trigger additional landslides.
Rajasthan Continues to Battle Heat, Relief Expected Soon
Rajasthan remained under the grip of hot and humid conditions, with Jaisalmer recording the state’s highest temperature at 43.7 degrees Celsius.
Despite the ongoing heat, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms, rain and isolated hailstorms across eastern and western Rajasthan over the coming days. These weather systems are expected to provide partial relief from the prevailing high temperatures.
Dust storms may also affect parts of western Rajasthan.
Delhi, Punjab and Haryana Likely to See Weather Change
The heat wave continues to affect parts of Punjab and Haryana, where temperatures remained above 42 degrees Celsius. Rohtak in Haryana recorded 42.1 degrees Celsius, while Faridkot in Punjab registered 42.6 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi may experience:
- Thunderstorms
- Light to moderate rainfall
- Dust storms
- Strong winds of 40–60 kmph
between June 4 and June 6.
For Delhi, weather forecasts indicate light rain, gusty winds and dust storms on June 4 and June 5, which could help lower temperatures and provide some relief from the ongoing heat.
Outlook
As the southwest monsoon edges closer to Kerala and weather systems become more active across the country, several regions are expected to receive rainfall and cooler conditions. While the changing weather may bring relief from summer heat, authorities continue to advise caution in areas vulnerable to thunderstorms, heavy rain, hailstorms and landslides.
