Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK Denies Alliance With NDA Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections

The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is heating up ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections, with actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), clarifying its stance on potential alliances.

On Saturday, TVK firmly denied reports suggesting that it could join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party leadership said it has no intention of forming an alliance with the BJP or the NDA.

Party Calls Alliance Speculation ‘Rumors’

TVK Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar dismissed the reports as speculation and said recent internal meetings had been misinterpreted.

According to him, the meeting of district secretaries was held solely to review organizational strength and strengthen the party structure, not to discuss electoral alliances.

“There is absolutely no question of entering into an electoral agreement with the BJP,” Nirmal Kumar said, urging party workers not to pay attention to what he described as unfounded rumors circulating in the media and on social platforms.

TVK Labels BJP an ‘Ideological Opponent’

In a strongly worded statement, the party reiterated that the BJP remains its “ideological opponent.”

Nirmal Kumar also questioned whether the BJP would accept Vijay as a chief ministerial candidate, suggesting that such speculation was unrealistic.

The party said reports about a possible alliance were being spread to divert public attention from real political issues.

TVK leadership advised its members and supporters to rely only on official statements issued by the party.

BJP State Leadership Avoids Direct Comment

Meanwhile, BJP Tamil Nadu state president Nainar Nagendran avoided giving a clear response when asked by journalists about the possibility of an alliance with TVK.

Nagendran said he preferred to focus on issues affecting the public rather than coalition discussions.

He highlighted concerns related to law and order and women’s safety in the state, saying these issues required greater attention.

Internal Voices Suggest Alliance Strategy

According to sources, some district-level leaders within TVK reportedly suggested to the party’s general secretary N. Anand that forming an alliance could improve electoral prospects.

However, the party’s top leadership has so far signaled a preference to contest independently and maintain distance from the BJP.

TVK has also urged party members to avoid being influenced by misleading social media narratives regarding potential alliances.

Tamil Nadu Political Scene Intensifies

With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, political parties in the state are expected to clarify their alliances and strategies in the coming months.

Vijay’s TVK, which has gained significant public attention since its formation, is increasingly being seen as a new political force that could influence the electoral dynamics in the state.
