India Raises Petrol, Diesel and CNG Prices Sharply as Global Energy Costs Climb

Indian consumers faced another inflationary blow on Friday after state-run oil marketing companies announced a steep increase in petrol, diesel and CNG prices across several major cities, citing rising global energy costs.

The latest revision pushed petrol and diesel prices higher by as much as ₹3 per liter in key metropolitan areas, while compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in the National Capital Region (NCR) also saw a notable increase.

The move comes as international crude oil and energy prices continue to rise, placing additional pressure on fuel retailers and transportation costs across India.

Delhi Fuel Prices Rise Significantly

Following the revision, petrol prices in New Delhi climbed to ₹97.77 per liter, while diesel prices rose to ₹90.67 per liter.

The sharp increase is expected to directly impact household budgets, daily commuters, logistics operators, taxi services and commercial transportation sectors.

Industry analysts say higher fuel prices could further contribute to inflationary pressure on essential goods and public transportation costs in the coming weeks.

Kolkata₹108.74+₹3.29₹95.13+₹3.11
Mumbai₹106.68+₹3.14₹93.14+₹3.11
Chennai₹103.67+₹2.83₹95.25+₹2.86

Kolkata Records Highest Petrol Rate

Among the four major metros, Kolkata recorded the highest petrol price after rates surged by ₹3.29 per liter to ₹108.74.

Mumbai, India’s financial capital, also witnessed a sharp increase, with petrol prices climbing to ₹106.68 per liter following a ₹3.14 hike.

In Chennai, petrol prices rose by ₹2.83 per liter, taking the retail price to ₹103.67 per liter.

Diesel Prices Also Move Higher

Diesel prices registered a similar upward trend across metropolitan cities.

In Kolkata, diesel prices increased by ₹3.11 to ₹95.13 per liter, while Mumbai recorded diesel at ₹93.14 after a hike of ₹3.11.

Chennai saw diesel prices rise by ₹2.86, bringing the revised retail rate to ₹95.25 per liter.

The increase is expected to affect freight transportation, agricultural operations and supply chain costs nationwide.

CNG Prices Increased Across NCR

Alongside petrol and diesel, CNG prices in Delhi and the National Capital Region were also revised upward by ₹2 per kilogram.

In Delhi, the new CNG rate now stands at ₹79.09 per kilogram.

Other NCR cities also reported higher rates:

  • Noida and Ghaziabad: ₹87.70/kg
  • Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Shamli: ₹87.58/kg
  • Gurugram: ₹84.12/kg
  • Rewari: ₹83.70/kg
  • Karnal: ₹83.43/kg

The increase is likely to impact auto-rickshaw drivers, cab operators, delivery services and private vehicle owners who rely on CNG as a lower-cost fuel alternative.

Rising Global Energy Prices Behind Latest Hike

Oil companies attributed the latest increase to a sharp rise in international energy and crude oil prices. Global supply disruptions and higher demand in international markets have added pressure on fuel-importing nations, including India.

Experts believe further volatility in global oil markets could influence domestic fuel prices in the coming weeks if international crude prices remain elevated.
