Hema Malini Opens Up on Dharmendra’s Final Days and Sunny Deol’s Media Clash
Veteran actress and BJP MP Hema Malini has spoken publicly for the first time about the emotional aftermath of legendary actor Dharmendra’s death, describing the period as one of the most difficult phases her family has ever faced.
In a recent interview on January 5, 2026, Hema Malini reflected on Dharmendra’s passing on November 24, 2025, calling it an “inconsolable shock” for the entire family. She said they believed he would recover yet again, as he had done several times in the past.
Remembering Dharmendra’s Final Days
Hema Malini revealed that Dharmendra was conscious and communicating clearly during his hospital stay. He even wished her on her birthday on October 16, just weeks before his health suddenly deteriorated. The family was preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday on December 8 when his condition took an unexpected turn.
She described watching his health decline as emotionally devastating, adding that the family was unprepared for how quickly things changed.
Defending Sunny Deol Over Paparazzi Anger
Addressing reports about Sunny Deol’s confrontations with the media during Dharmendra’s illness and passing, Hema Malini firmly defended her stepson. She said paparazzi followed family cars, crowded outside their homes, and repeatedly invaded their privacy during an extremely sensitive time.
According to her, Sunny Deol’s anger was justified, as the family was dealing with intense grief while facing what she described as excessive media harassment.
Family Unity and Future Plans
Hema Malini emphasized that the family stood united throughout Dharmendra’s hospitalization, with herself, Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol all present together. She dismissed speculation about separate prayer meetings, calling such matters strictly personal and clarifying that there is no discord within the family.
She also revealed that Sunny Deol is planning to transform Dharmendra’s beloved Lonavala farmhouse into a museum, allowing fans to visit and remember the iconic actor’s life and legacy.
Looking ahead, Hema Malini said she will gradually return to her professional commitments and developmental work in Mathura, noting that Dharmendra always found happiness in seeing her remain active and engaged.
