Over 100 Women Attend Legal Awareness Workshop on the Triple Talaq Judgment; JagrukMahila.in Introduced to Promote Women’s Legal Empowerment
More than 100 women attended a Legal Awareness Workshop held on 30 June 2026 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The programme was organised by Inderprastha Engineering College, Ghaziabad, in collaboration with the Center for Human Rights and Social Welfare (CFHRSW) under an ICSSR-funded research project. The workshop focused on promoting legal awareness among women in the context of the Triple Talaq Judgment and introduced JagrukMahila.in, a dedicated digital platform developed to provide accessible information on women’s legal rights, relevant laws, legal remedies, and available support services. Among the participants were several women who had experienced instant Triple Talaq, making the workshop a meaningful platform for awareness, dialogue, and empowerment.

The inaugural session featured an eminent panel comprising Dr. Mahjabin Banu, Principal Investigator of the project; Dr. Gaffar Ali Khan, representing the District Minority Office; Satyendra Ji, representing the RSS; Ms. Nishat Hussain, Social Activist and Rajasthan Convenor, National Muslim Women Welfare Society; Lady Qazi Jahan Aara; Maulana Md. Saleem Sahab; Advocate Ruby Khan; representatives of the Rajasthan Waqf Board; and Ms. Saroj Khan, Founder of the partnering NGO.

Welcoming the participants, Dr. Mahjabin Banu, Principal Investigator of the project, highlighted the significance of legal awareness in strengthening women’s access to justice following the Triple Talaq Judgment. She encouraged women to become self-reliant through education, awareness, and confidence, delivering the message: “Educate yourselves, speak confidently, and support each other.” She further appealed to Muslim women to actively contribute to the country’s economy by pursuing education, developing professional skills, embracing entrepreneurship, and participating in the workforce, emphasizing that women’s economic empowerment is essential for inclusive national development.
Ms. Nishat Hussain, Social Activist and Rajasthan Convenor of the National Muslim Women Welfare Society, reflected on her decades-long journey of advocating for Muslim women’s rights. She shared her experiences of being part of and witnessing the movement for justice against instant Triple Talaq and highlighted the sustained efforts of women activists and civil society that culminated in the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of India. She encouraged participants to remain informed about their legal rights and to continue supporting one another in the pursuit of justice, dignity, and equality.
Advocate Ruby Khan conducted an informative legal awareness session, explaining the legal rights available to women in India and guiding participants on how to approach the police and other competent authorities for legal assistance and protection. Her session focused on practical legal remedies available to women facing family and social disputes.
Representatives from the District Minority Office and the Rajasthan Waqf Board informed participants about educational opportunities, scholarships, skill development programmes, entrepreneurship initiatives, and other schemes available for minority communities. They also explained the eligibility criteria, required documentation, and procedures for accessing these benefits.
The project’s field investigators shared their experiences of engaging with women during field visits and community interactions. They highlighted the challenges involved in conducting grassroots legal awareness programmes while emphasizing the importance of continuous outreach to ensure that women are informed about their constitutional and legal rights.
Participants appreciated JagrukMahila.in as a valuable and user-friendly digital platform providing reliable information on women’s legal rights, important laws, legal remedies, and support services in simple and accessible language. The website aims to bridge the information gap by making legal knowledge readily available to women and encouraging informed decision-making.
The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion and a vote of thanks to all distinguished speakers, participants, partner organisations, and community members for their valuable support and participation. The organisers expressed confidence that the initiative would make a meaningful contribution towards strengthening legal awareness, promoting gender justice, and empowering women to exercise their rights with confidence, dignity, and informed decision-making.
