Taipei, Taiwan — April 27, 2026

Taiwan reported a fresh surge in Chinese military activity around the island, with multiple aircraft and naval vessels detected near its territory, according to the Ministry of National Defense Taiwan on Monday.

The ministry said that as of 6:00 a.m. local time, seven Chinese military aircraft and nine naval vessels were operating in areas surrounding Taiwan. Of the seven aircraft, six entered Taiwan’s northern and southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), a sensitive buffer area monitored closely by the island’s armed forces.

In a statement shared on X, Taiwan’s defense authorities said its military is maintaining constant surveillance of the situation and has deployed appropriate responses to monitor and counter the activity.

The latest development follows a similar escalation recorded a day earlier. On Sunday, Taiwan tracked 28 Chinese military aircraft and eight naval ships operating near its airspace and waters. Among those, 18 aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern ADIZ zones.

While such incursions have become increasingly frequent in recent years, Taiwan continues to closely monitor movements by China’s military, viewing them as part of sustained pressure tactics. Officials have reiterated that the island’s defense forces remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any potential threat.

China has not issued an immediate public response regarding the latest reported activities.

The situation remains under close observation amid ongoing regional security concerns in the Taiwan Strait.
