The update adds powerful image generation capabilities to the existing ChatGPT chatbot on WhatsApp, allowing users to request visual content just like they can on the official app and website.
OpenAI Brings Image Creation to WhatsApp ChatGPT
The image generation feature was officially announced on OpenAI’s verified X account (formerly Twitter). Users can now type prompts in WhatsApp and receive AI-generated images from ChatGPT. Although OpenAI has not released technical specifications, the feature is believed to be powered by the GPT-4o model, the same version used in ChatGPT’s desktop, mobile, and web apps.
This marks a major step forward, as the feature integrates visual content creation directly within WhatsApp conversations, merging convenience with cutting-edge AI.
How Long It Takes and What to Expect
Initial tests show that ChatGPT takes around 2 minutes to generate an image on WhatsApp. The quality of the images matches those produced via other ChatGPT platforms. However, there’s a limitation: users who haven’t linked their OpenAI account to WhatsApp can only generate one image per 24 hours.
For unlimited use, users are encouraged to link their OpenAI account with WhatsApp through the official setup process.
