Vijay Thalapathy Leaves for Delhi for Second CBI Questioning

New Delhi | January 18, 2026

Actor and politician Vijay Thalapathy has reached Delhi ahead of his second round of questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), scheduled for tomorrow, January 19, 2026. The interrogation is part of the ongoing probe into the Karur stampede case, one of the most tragic incidents linked to a political gathering in Tamil Nadu in 2025.

Left for Delhi on a Chartered Plane

On Sunday evening, Vijay departed for Delhi at 4:15 PM aboard a chartered aircraft, airport officials confirmed. The CBI has summoned him again to clarify details related to the stampede that occurred during a TVK public meeting in Karur.

Six-Hour CBI Questioning Conducted Earlier on January 12

Vijay underwent his first round of questioning at the CBI headquarters on January 12, where he was questioned for nearly six hours. Although he was asked to return the next day, he requested a fresh date due to Pongal celebrations. He was then rescheduled for questioning on January 19.

📌 What Happened in the Karur Stampede?

The stampede occurred on September 27, 2025, during a large public rally organized by Vijay’s political party, TVK, in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The tragic incident resulted in:

  • 41 deaths

  • More than 110 injuries

Following nationwide criticism and legal intervention, the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to take charge of the investigation and form a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Vijay Had Issued a Public Apology

A day after the tragedy, Vijay posted an apology on social media, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. However, he faced criticism online, with several commenters attributing responsibility to him for the mismanagement at the event.
