US–Iran Nuclear Talks in Oman End Without Breakthrough

Muscat, Oman — February 7, 2026

The first round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, held in Oman’s capital Muscat, concluded without any concrete outcome, prompting plans for fresh negotiations next week. Despite the lack of a breakthrough, officials from both sides described the discussions as “positive.”

However, the diplomatic stalemate was accompanied by strong warnings and fresh sanctions from US President Donald Trump, raising pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program.

Talks End Without Agreement, But More Meetings Planned

The discussions in Muscat focused on reviving a potential framework to address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. While no formal agreement was reached, negotiators agreed to reconvene next week in an effort to narrow differences.

Oman has traditionally played the role of a neutral mediator in sensitive regional diplomacy, including past US–Iran engagements.

Trump Issues Strong Warning to Iran

Speaking after the talks, President Trump described the negotiations as “very good” but made it clear that time is running out for Tehran.

He warned that if Iran fails to reach an agreement on its nuclear activities, it would face “serious consequences.” Trump emphasized that the United States remains committed to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, signaling a tougher stance ahead of the next round of talks.

New US Sanctions After Talks

Soon after the inconclusive negotiations, the United States announced new sanctions targeting Iran’s oil and petrochemical export networks.

According to US officials, the measures include restrictions on multiple companies, vessels, and individuals accused of helping Iran bypass existing sanctions through illicit oil trade routes. Washington said these networks were being used to evade international regulations and fund Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

The sanctions are expected to further strain Iran’s economy, which is already under significant pressure from earlier restrictions.

What Lies Ahead

With diplomacy and pressure running in parallel, the upcoming round of talks next week will be closely watched by the international community. Analysts say the combination of negotiations and sanctions reflects Washington’s strategy of maximum leverage while keeping diplomatic channels open.

Iran has not yet issued a detailed response to the latest sanctions, but officials have previously insisted that any agreement must include relief from economic restrictions.
