UPSC Recruitment 2026 notification has been officially released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), announcing 194 vacancies for various Group A and Group B posts across multiple central ministries and government departments.

The recruitment drive includes positions such as Manager, Assistant Controller, Scientist, Technical Officer, Associate Professor, Deputy Director, Archaeological Engineer, and Lecturer, among others. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online until June 12, 2026.

The vacancies are spread across several departments, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), India Meteorological Department (IMD), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Ministry of Defence, Ministry of MSME, Postal Department, and Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).

UPSC Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

According to the official notification, candidates possessing educational qualifications such as BSc, BTech/BE, MSc, ME/MTech, MA, PhD, and postgraduate diplomas are eligible to apply for different posts depending on the role requirements.

For technical and engineering positions, relevant industry experience may also be mandatory.

Key Posts and Required Qualifications

  • Airworthiness Officer (DGCA): Graduation in Physics, Mathematics, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, or Engineering along with an AME license and three years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Deputy Controller of Explosives (PESO): Chemical Engineering degree or MSc in Chemistry with three years of experience in the chemical or petroleum sector.
  • Manager (Mail Motor Service): BTech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering with three years of transport operation experience.
  • Junior Technical Officer (Oil/Sugar): BTech/BE in Oil Technology or postgraduate diploma in Sugar Technology with one year of experience.
  • Scientific Officer (Mechanical): Postgraduate degree in Physics or Mechanical/Metallurgy Engineering qualification with laboratory or R&D experience.
  • Associate Professor (Electrical and Mechanical): BE/BTech, MTech, and PhD with a minimum of five years of teaching or professional experience.
  • Lecturer (Persian and Tibetan): Postgraduate degree in respective languages along with one year of teaching or translation experience.
  • Scientist-B Positions: Available in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Electronics, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering streams.
  • Deputy Director of Mines Safety: Mining Engineering qualification and relevant certification with 10 years of mining sector experience.

The Commission stated that post-wise eligibility, age limits, and specialization details are available in the detailed notification.

Application Fee and Exemptions

Male candidates belonging to General, OBC, and EWS categories are required to pay an application fee of Rs 25.

The fee can be paid through Visa, MasterCard, RuPay credit/debit cards, UPI, or internet banking.

Candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD categories, and all female applicants are fully exempted from paying the application fee.

Selection Process for UPSC Vacancies

The selection process will vary depending on the post.

UPSC stated that candidates may be selected through direct interviews or through a recruitment test followed by an interview. If a large number of applications are received, the Commission may shortlist applicants based on educational qualifications, work experience, or additional criteria.

The Commission also clarified that being called for an interview does not guarantee final selection, as appointments will ultimately be made by the concerned ministries and departments.

Age Limit and Relaxation Rules

The age limit for the vacancies differs according to the position applied for, with eligibility calculated as of June 12, 2026, the last date of application submission.

Reserved category candidates will receive age relaxation benefits as per Government of India norms:

  • SC/ST candidates: 5 years relaxation
  • OBC candidates: 3 years relaxation
  • Persons with disabilities: Relaxation as per applicable rules

However, candidates from reserved categories applying for unreserved posts will not be eligible for age relaxation benefits.
