Quality healthcare will be ensured in the country. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has started the process of registration of all MBBS doctors eligible to practice in India on its portal. Under this, all doctors will have a unique ID.

Registration of MBBS doctors

NMC recently said in a notice that all MBBS doctors registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will have to re-register on NMR. All medical colleges / institutes are interconnected on the State Medical Council (SMC) portal. Some data will also be visible to the general public, while other data will be visible only to NMC, SMC, National Board of Examinations (NBE), medical institutions and doctors.

This is how registration will be done

For registration, doctors will need their Aadhaar ID, digital copy of MBBS degree and registration certificate of the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India where the doctor registered for the first time.

Doctors will also be able to enter additional information about their qualifications manually. The application will reach the concerned SMC automatically for verification.

The SMC will send the application to the concerned college or institute for review.

After verification, the application will be sent to the NMC. A unique NMR ID will be issued after verification by the NMC.

During this process, doctors can choose to join the Healthcare Provider Registry, which will connect them to the wider digital healthcare ecosystem.

Through this portal, all stakeholders, including SMCs and educational institutions, can login and verify applications from a single platform.
