The much-awaited film “Jana Nayagan,” starring Thalapathy Vijay, could finally move closer to its theatrical release as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) prepares to review the movie once again.
The film has been delayed for several months due to certification issues, but the latest developments suggest that the project may soon receive clearance.
Why the Film’s Release Was Delayed
“Jana Nayagan” was originally scheduled to hit theaters on January 9, 2026. However, the CBFC declined to issue a censor certificate, citing concerns over certain scenes that were believed to potentially affect religious sentiments.
Following the decision, the filmmakers approached both the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court, but the release remained on hold during the legal proceedings.
In December 2025, a review committee recommended that certain scenes be removed or modified. The filmmakers reportedly agreed to those suggestions. However, an objection raised later by one of the committee members resulted in the matter being forwarded to a revising committee for further evaluation.
CBFC Revising Committee to Review the Film Again
According to recent reports, the CBFC revising committee will re-examine the film on March 17, 2026, in Chennai.
The meeting will reportedly be chaired by Kannada filmmaker T.S. Nagabharana. Initially, the session was planned for March 9, but it was postponed after one of the committee members fell ill.
Industry sources suggest that the committee could approve the film with certain cuts or modifications. If the film receives approval, the CBFC will issue the official certification, allowing the producers to announce a new release date.
Release Date Still Uncertain
Although the upcoming review has raised expectations among fans, the film’s release date has not yet been confirmed. The project has already experienced multiple delays, so producers are expected to wait for the final certification before announcing a new theatrical schedule.
