Thalapathy Vijay Questioned in CBI’s Karur Stampede Case Probe

New Delhi | January 19, 2026

Thalapathy Vijay, actor and chief of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday for the second round of questioning in the Karur stampede case, where 41 people lost their lives during a political event in September 2025.

Vijay arrived at the CBI headquarters on Lodhi Road around 10 a.m., accompanied by a convoy of luxury SUVs. After nearly six hours of questioning, he exited the CBI office and greeted waiting reporters and fans by waving at them.
This was his second appearance before the agency; the first round of questioning took place on January 12.

According to officials quoted by PTI, a team led by a Deputy Superintendent from the Anti-Corruption Unit questioned Vijay regarding the event’s arrangements, crowd management strategy, and the sequence of incidents on September 27, 2025.

Vijay had originally been asked to appear last Tuesday but requested a postponement due to Pongal celebrations, leading to the rescheduled session on January 19.

Nine Police Personnel Questioned Along with Thalapathy Vijay

In addition to Vijay, the CBI also questioned nine police officers who were present during the Karur rally.
The focus of the inquiry remained on security lapses, emergency planning, and what led to the deadly crowd surge.

Fans Gather Outside CBI Office, Show Strong Support

Hundreds of fans gathered outside the CBI headquarters to express support for Thalapathy Vijay. Many held posters and chanted his name, insisting he was not responsible for the tragic incident.

One fan said:
“Thalapathy sir is deeply saddened by the tragedy, but he cannot be held responsible alone. The security arrangements that day were not proper.”

Another young admirer, who said he had a tattoo of Vijay’s name on his arm, shared that he had arrived outside the CBI office at 7 a.m. to support his idol.

A fan defending Vijay added:
“During the stampede, police officers were not present in that part of the ground. People from outside entered the rally crowd. These were not party members, and that caused the chaos.”
