Sheikh Hasina’s Return Sparks Major Political Shift

The Awami League has officially confirmed that Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh as Prime Minister. This announcement comes amid political uncertainty and growing tensions in the country. With her comeback, Bangladesh is set for a major political transformation, as supporters celebrate while opposition forces question the legitimacy of her return.

Why Was Sheikh Hasina Away?

Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave Bangladesh after widespread protests and political turmoil last year. The country saw violent demonstrations over civil service hiring policies, which led to her removal. The opposition and youth movements played a significant role in her ouster, and an interim government, led by Mohammed Yunus, took control.

However, Awami League leaders have labeled these protests as a “terrorist uprising”, claiming that Hasina’s removal was not a true democratic process but a manipulation of the people. Now, with political pressure mounting, her return as Prime Minister is officially confirmed.

India’s Role in Sheikh Hasina’s Return

India has played a key role in Sheikh Hasina’s return. After she was ousted, she took refuge in India, where the government provided her with protection. The Awami League has expressed gratitude to India for ensuring her safety and has also acknowledged India’s role in helping key party leaders regroup.

The interim government led by Mohammed Yunus requested Hasina’s extradition, but India did not respond officially. This indicates that India may be supporting her return to power, which could have a major impact on Bangladesh-India relations.
