Cooch Behar, West Bengal, April 5, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress during a massive rally in Cooch Behar, accusing the party of fostering “corruption, commission culture, and violence” in West Bengal.
Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi said the turnout reflected growing public support for political change in the state and confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Accountability After May 4”
In a strongly worded statement, the prime minister said that those responsible for alleged wrongdoing would face consequences after May 4, signaling a potential political shift following ongoing electoral developments.
He urged voters not to be intimidated during polling, alleging that local elements linked to the ruling party may attempt to create fear.
“Trust the law,” PM Modi said, adding that governance rooted in accountability would replace what he described as a climate of fear.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment
Highlighting central government initiatives, PM Modi said millions of women have benefited from welfare schemes, including economic empowerment programs.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies, calling it a long-pending reform.
The prime minister also noted that a special parliamentary session is scheduled later in April to deliberate on key legislative matters, including women’s representation.
Assurance to States on Representation
PM Modi addressed concerns related to parliamentary seat allocation, assuring that states which have effectively controlled population growth would not face any disadvantage in representation.
He emphasized that the government aims to ensure fair participation for all states while expanding opportunities for women in legislative bodies.
Law and Order Concerns Raised
Referring to a recent incident in Malda, the prime minister expressed concern over reports involving judicial officials, questioning the state’s law-and-order situation.
He said such developments raise broader concerns about governance and public safety, calling for institutional accountability.
Appeal for Political Consensus
On the issue of women’s reservation, PM Modi urged all political parties to rise above differences and support the legislation, describing it as a national priority.
He also called on women voters to actively advocate for the passage of the bill, emphasizing that inclusive governance requires collective political will.
