Jerusalem, Israel — February 26, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, on Wednesday, condemning the recent Hamas attack on Israel and affirming that India “stands firmly with Israel.”
Modi is the first Indian prime minister to address the Knesset. In his speech, he described India–Israel ties as “thousands of years old,” underscoring the historical and cultural bonds between the two nations.
Strong Message Against Terrorism
In his address, Modi reiterated India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism, stating that no justification for terror can be accepted. His remarks came amid heightened regional tensions following attacks by Hamas.
Israeli officials and lawmakers responded with applause, reflecting broad support for India’s position.
Netanyahu Highlights Bollywood Connection
Netanyahu previously expressed admiration for Indian cinema during his 2018 visit to India, noting Israel’s fondness for Bollywood and the strong cinematic ties between the two countries.
In 2018, India and Israel signed a film co-production agreement, approved by India’s Union Cabinet under Modi’s leadership. The pact grants co-produced films national status in both countries, enabling access to funding, talent collaboration, and distribution networks.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the agreement allows shared use of creative, technical, financial, and marketing resources. Co-produced films can participate in film festivals in both countries as domestic entries and benefit from production and post-production incentives.
Expanding Cooperation in Advanced Technologies
Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, said Modi’s visit generated significant enthusiasm and described the Prime Minister’s speech as impactful.
Azar emphasized that both nations are working to broaden cooperation, particularly in sensitive and advanced technologies. Recent agreements have established mechanisms to deepen collaboration, and both sides are now moving toward implementation.
Defense cooperation is expected to feature prominently in bilateral discussions, with potential agreements including drone procurement and expanded strategic partnerships.
Day Two: Visit to Yad Vashem, Bilateral Talks
On the second day of his visit, Modi is scheduled to visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to Holocaust victims.
He will also hold bilateral talks with Netanyahu. Officials expect discussions to cover defense, technology, trade, and strategic cooperation.
This marks Modi’s first state visit to Israel in nearly nine years, signaling renewed momentum in India–Israel relations.
