Barpeta, Assam | April 6, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress party while addressing a large election rally in Assam’s Barpeta district, predicting a decisive victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
In a high-energy speech, PM Modi said the upcoming elections would mark two significant outcomes: a third consecutive term for the BJP-NDA alliance in Assam and what he described as a “record-breaking defeat” for Congress leadership.
“The people of Assam will ensure the NDA’s hat-trick victory and also set a new record of defeats for Congress leaders sitting in Delhi,” PM Modi said.
BJP Focused on ‘Nation First’ Vision
Highlighting the BJP’s governance approach, the Prime Minister emphasized that his party remains committed to the principle of “Nation First” and is working toward building a self-reliant India.
He contrasted this with the Congress party, accusing it of lacking transparency and avoiding public accountability.
“Congress never presents its report card before the people. Our government, with honest intent, tells citizens what we have delivered,” he said.
‘BJP Taking Assam to New Heights’
PM Modi asserted that Assam is on a path of rapid development under BJP leadership and urged voters to strengthen this trajectory.
“Your vote will strengthen the foundation of a developed Assam. The BJP is taking Assam to heights its people truly deserve,” he added.
Criticizing Congress further, he claimed the party historically focused on short-term political gains rather than long-term development, often driven by corruption.
Farmers’ MSP: PM Modi Compares BJP vs Congress
The Prime Minister also highlighted government support for farmers, particularly paddy growers, drawing a comparison between the previous Congress-led government and the current administration.
According to PM Modi:
- Between 2004–2014 (Congress rule), farmers received ₹4 lakh crore in MSP payments
- Between 2014–2024 (BJP rule), this rose to ₹16 lakh crore
He also pointed out that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy has increased significantly:
- ₹1,300 per quintal in 2013
- Around ₹2,370 per quintal today
“This clearly shows Congress could never truly support farmers,” PM Modi said, adding that the Assam government provides additional benefits.
Women’s Reservation Push Ahead of 2029 Elections
Addressing the issue of women’s representation, PM Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to implementing 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies under the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
“For a developed India, women must have a stronger role in Parliament and Assemblies,” he stated.
He noted that women in India have waited decades for political representation and emphasized the need for timely implementation ahead of the 2029 general elections.
PM Modi also announced that a special session of Parliament has been scheduled starting April 16 to deliberate necessary legal amendments.
“We have urged all political parties to come together and support this historic step unanimously,” he said.
