Guwahati, Assam — March 13, 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched multiple development projects worth thousands of crores during his visit to Assam. Addressing a public gathering in Guwahati, the Prime Minister also transferred over ₹18,645 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.32 crore farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.

The event marked another installment of the government’s direct benefit transfer initiative aimed at supporting farmers across the country.

PM-Kisan Installment Released to Millions of Farmers

During the program, Modi released the 22nd installment of the PM-Kisan scheme, under which eligible farmers receive financial assistance directly in their bank accounts.

The Prime Minister said that since the launch of the scheme, over ₹4.25 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers nationwide, describing the initiative as a major step toward strengthening financial security for the agricultural community.

He also responded to criticism from opposition parties, stating that attempts were made earlier to create confusion among farmers about the continuation of the scheme.

Infrastructure Development Focus in Northeast

Along with the fund transfer, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and development in the northeastern region.

These projects include investments in road infrastructure, terminals, and jetty facilities, reflecting the government’s focus on expanding economic opportunities and transportation networks across the region.

The Prime Minister said such projects will play a crucial role in improving connectivity and boosting regional growth in the Northeast.

Government Emphasizes Self-Reliance in Agriculture

During his address, Modi highlighted the government’s push toward self-reliance in agriculture and energy over the past decade.

He said global conflicts in earlier years often had a direct impact on farmers through rising prices of fertilizers, diesel, and other inputs. According to the Prime Minister, the government is working to reduce such vulnerabilities.

He also referred to initiatives aimed at promoting solar energy in agriculture, saying efforts are being made to transform farmers from “food providers to energy providers.”

Political Exchanges During the Address

The Prime Minister also criticized past governance policies, stating that several fertilizer plants had been shut down in previous decades but were revived during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance government.

He also referred to political debates around economic policies and urged opposition leaders to examine historical policy decisions more closely.

Address in Kokrajhar

Earlier in the day, Modi addressed another gathering in Kokrajhar, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to development and welfare programs.

He said the current government’s focus remains on infrastructure expansion, economic growth, and farmer welfare, emphasizing what he described as a development-driven governance model.

The Assam visit highlighted the government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen agriculture support programs and infrastructure development, particularly in India’s northeastern states.
