Nominations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2024 are now open! This is an opportunity for people across all fields and disciplines to recognize the work of distinction and exceptional achievements/service of deserving individuals. The Padma Awards are amongst the highest civilian awards of the country, consisting of three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Instituted in 1954, these Awards seek to recognize outstanding contributions in various fields, including Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry, etc.
The government is committed to making Padma Awards “People’s Padma,” and hence all citizens are requested to make nominations/recommendations, including self-nomination. The nominations/recommendations should be made online on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal by 15th September 2023, and should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the website, including a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words), clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements/service of the person recommended in their respective field/discipline.
Eligibility for the Padma Awards is open to all persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex, except for Government servants, including those working with PSUs, except Doctors and Scientists. Efforts may be made to identify talented individuals whose excellence and achievements deserve recognition from among women, weaker sections of society, SCs & STs, divyang persons and those who are doing selfless service to the society.
The Ministry of Home Affairs website and Padma Awards Portal have all the details available for those who wish to make nominations/recommendations. The statutes and rules relating to these awards are also available on the Padma Awards Portal.
Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service in any field including service rendered by the Government officials. Padma Bhushan is awarded for distinguished service of high order in any field, while Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in any field. The award ceremony for Padma Awards takes place every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
The nominations/recommendations should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the above said Portal, including a citation in narrative form (maximum 800 words), clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements/service of the person recommended in her/his respective field/discipline.
