A fresh spell of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds is expected across several parts of North India as a Western Disturbance becomes active, according to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The changing weather pattern is likely to bring relief from rising temperatures but may also disrupt daily life.
States Under Weather Alert
Delhi-NCR
Residents of Delhi and surrounding regions can expect dust storms followed by light to moderate rainfall. The IMD predicts a drop in temperature by around 2–3°C, offering short-term relief from the recent heat.
Punjab and Haryana
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and possible hailstorms have been forecast. Authorities have advised caution as hail could impact crops and outdoor activities.
Uttar Pradesh
Several districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Baghpat, and Noida, may witness strong winds and scattered showers over the next 24 hours.
Hill States
Higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive snowfall, while lower regions could experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
Advisory: What Precautions to Take
-
Avoid Open Exposure: Do not stand under trees or near electric poles during strong winds or lightning.
-
For Farmers: Secure harvested crops and stored grains to prevent damage from hail or rain.
-
Travel Safety: Drive carefully as wet roads may reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents.
Impact on Temperature
The incoming weather system is expected to bring a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures across North India. However, humidity levels may rise slightly following the rainfall.
Weather Outlook
Meteorologists indicate that this Western Disturbance could influence weather conditions for the next couple of days, with intermittent rainfall and cloudy skies across the region
