New Delhi, India — March 21, 2026
India’s LPG Supply Situation is facing disruptions in several regions, even as a new solution—India’s first LPG ATM—has been introduced in Gurugram to ease access to cooking gas.
Amid ongoing global tensions affecting fuel supply chains, cities like Gujarat and Varanasi are witnessing delays in LPG cylinder deliveries, prompting concerns among households.
LPG Shortage: What’s Causing the Delay?
The current shortage is linked to international supply disruptions driven by geopolitical conflicts, which have impacted crude oil and gas imports. As a result, several areas are experiencing delivery delays of 7 to 10 days for domestic LPG cylinders.
This has created challenges for consumers, especially in high-demand regions.
What Is an LPG ATM?
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched India’s first LPG ATM in Gurugram as an alternative solution.
This automated system allows consumers to purchase small LPG cylinders, such as 5 kg “Chhotu” cylinders, at any time—24/7—without requiring a delivery service.
Users can make payments through cash or digital modes, and the cylinder is dispensed directly through the machine without human assistance.

Why It Matters
The LPG ATM is expected to benefit individuals who need immediate access to gas, particularly:
- Students living away from home
- Working professionals in rented accommodations
- Households facing emergency gas shortages
The system offers quick, on-demand availability, reducing dependency on delivery timelines.
Expansion Plans
Following the initial rollout in Gurugram, authorities are planning to expand LPG ATM installations to other major cities, including Delhi and Mumbai.
Priority is expected to be given to regions currently facing supply shortages, making the initiative a potential relief measure in the ongoing crisis.
