New Delhi, India – February 13, 2026
India’s weather pattern is showing sharp regional contrasts in the second week of February, with snowfall expected in the western Himalayas, rising daytime temperatures across northern plains, and strong winds forecast over coastal waters.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), multiple weather systems are currently active across the country, leading to rapid and varied changes in atmospheric conditions.
Western Disturbances to Bring Snow and Rain to Himalayan States
Two fresh Western Disturbances are set to impact the western Himalayan region.
The first system is expected to become active on February 13
The second system is forecast to influence the region from February 16
Under their impact:
Rain is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and adjoining areas on February 13, 16, and 17
Higher elevations may witness snowfall
Rain and snow are also possible in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 16 and 17
The IMD stated that the earlier Western Disturbance has weakened, but the incoming systems could temporarily disrupt weather stability in the mountains.
Subtropical Jet Stream Influencing Northeast Weather
A fast-moving subtropical westerly jet stream is currently active over Northeast India at an altitude of approximately 12.6 kilometers, with wind speeds reaching around 125 knots.
Light rainfall is possible in Arunachal Pradesh on February 13 and 14. Morning fog may affect parts of Meghalaya through February 13, potentially reducing visibility and affecting road and air travel.
The earlier cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh and northeast Assam has weakened, allowing gradual normalization of weather conditions in those regions.
Delhi-NCR and Northern Plains See Gradual Temperature Rise
Daytime temperatures are steadily increasing across the northern plains, particularly in Delhi and surrounding areas.
Residents are beginning to feel mild warmth during afternoon hours. While nights remain slightly cool, the temperature gap between day and night is widening. Clear skies and stronger sunlight are contributing to the warming trend.
Meteorologists expect a further gradual rise in daytime temperatures over the coming days.
Dry Weather in South India; Strong Winds Over Coastal Waters
Most parts of southern India are expected to remain dry, with only isolated light rainfall possible in some areas.
However, strong and gusty winds are likely over coastal regions and adjoining seas. Authorities have advised fishermen and those venturing into the sea to exercise caution, as high waves and rough sea conditions may develop during periods of intensified winds.
Advisory and Outlook
Weather officials emphasized that February’s weather pattern is shifting quickly, with different impacts across regions.
Mountain residents should remain alert for snowfall and rainfall.
People in the plains should prepare for warmer daytime conditions.
Travelers in fog-prone areas should exercise caution.
Coastal communities are advised to monitor marine advisories before venturing offshore.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official local forecasts as conditions may evolve rapidly.
