A fresh Western Disturbance has become active over North India, triggering a significant change in weather conditions across several states on January 25 and 26, 2026, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy snowfall in higher reaches, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures and the onset of a new cold wave phase in parts of northern and central India.
🌧️ North India Weather Update: Rain, Snowfall and Cold Winds
IMD forecasts indicate that Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh will witness cloudy skies with rain and thunderstorm activity.
Hilly regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive moderate to heavy snowfall
Plains of North India, including Delhi-NCR, may experience light rain or drizzle accompanied by winds reaching 30–40 km/h
Post-rainfall, cold wave conditions may intensify from January 26 onward
🌫️ Dense Fog and Cold Wave Alert
IMD has issued a fog advisory for the next 2–3 days:
Dense morning and evening fog likely in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand
Visibility may reduce significantly, affecting road and rail transport
Cold wave conditions are expected in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh

While severe cold wave conditions may slightly ease, minimum temperatures are expected to fall further, keeping parts of Madhya Pradesh under persistent cold conditions.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may witness foggy mornings
Northeastern states likely to remain under cloudy skies with isolated light rainfall
🌧️ South India & Coastal Regions
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall
Mumbai and western coastal regions will largely remain dry with clear to partly cloudy skies

Due to rough sea conditions and strong winds, IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, particularly near:
