The latest ICC Men’s T20 International rankings have brought a mix of reassurance and fresh competition for Indian cricket fans. Abhishek Sharma continues to hold the No.1 position among T20I batters, but Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan has moved closer to the top spot following an impressive performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Indian opener Sanju Samson made a significant leap in the rankings after delivering a match-winning innings against West Indies.
Abhishek Sharma’s No.1 Position Under Pressure
Abhishek Sharma currently leads the ICC T20I batting rankings with 874 rating points, maintaining his position as the world’s top-ranked batter in the format.
However, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan is rapidly closing in. Farhan now sits in second place with 848 rating points, just 26 points behind the Indian batter. This marks the highest rating of Farhan’s international career so far.
Abhishek first reached the No.1 ranking in July last year, overtaking Australia’s Travis Head. Later during the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, he achieved a historic rating of 931 points, the highest ever recorded by a T20I batter. That milestone surpassed the previous record of 919 points held by England’s Dawid Malan.
Despite his strong ranking, Abhishek’s performance in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup has been relatively modest so far. In six matches, he has scored 80 runs at an average of 13.33 with a strike rate of 131.14.
The tournament began on a difficult note for him, as he registered three consecutive ducks. He also missed one match against Namibia due to a stomach issue. Abhishek showed signs of recovery with a 55-run knock off 30 balls against Zimbabwe at Wankhede Stadium, but he could not carry that momentum into the next match against West Indies.
India will now look to him for a crucial innings in the upcoming semifinal against England.
Sahibzada Farhan’s Outstanding World Cup Campaign
Although Pakistan failed to reach the tournament’s semifinals, Sahibzada Farhan emerged as one of the standout performers of the competition.
The right-handed batter scored 383 runs in six innings, averaging 76.60 with a strike rate of 160.25.
During the Super-8 match against Sri Lanka, Farhan broke the record for the most runs scored by a batter in a single T20 World Cup edition, previously held by India’s Virat Kohli. He also became the first player to score two centuries in a single T20 World Cup edition, achieving the feat against Namibia and Sri Lanka.
However, Farhan was dismissed for zero against India, one of the few low points in his otherwise impressive tournament.
Sanju Samson Makes Big Jump in Rankings
Indian opener Sanju Samson also enjoyed a major rise in the rankings following his standout performance against West Indies.
After scoring a match-winning unbeaten 97, Samson climbed 25 places to reach 40th position in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
The knock came in a high-scoring match played in Kolkata, where Samson smashed 97 not out from 50 balls, including 12 fours and four sixes.
India successfully chased a target of 196 runs, marking the team’s highest successful run chase in T20 World Cup history.
In the updated rankings, Samson now sits just behind several established international batters, including West Indies captain Rovman Powell, South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
