New Delhi, India — April 29, 2026

A sudden spell of rain and gusty winds swept across parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from days of intense heat that had gripped the region.

Residents in several areas of the national capital reported sharp weather changes, with strong winds and light to moderate rainfall lowering temperatures and improving overall comfort levels. Neighboring Noida also witnessed light showers, adding to the cooling effect across the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department, cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning were already forecast for April 29 and 30. The agency has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, cautioning residents about possible weather fluctuations, including gusty winds and brief rain spells.

🌦️ Short-Term Relief, Heat Likely to Return

While the current conditions have temporarily eased the heatwave, forecasters warn that this relief may be short-lived. Weather conditions are expected to clear between May 1 and May 2, with temperatures likely climbing back to around 104°F (40°C).

However, the IMD has indicated another shift shortly after. Cloud cover and light rain are expected to return on May 3 and 4, driven by an approaching western disturbance.

🌩️ Western Disturbance to Impact Northern India

A fresh western disturbance is projected to affect the western Himalayan region starting May 2. Its influence could extend to the plains, including Delhi-NCR, by evening or the following day, potentially triggering renewed cloud activity and scattered rainfall.

🌡️ Temperature Drops After Dust Storm

Earlier this week, a dust storm that swept through the capital on Monday night also contributed to breaking the heatwave streak. For the first time in nearly six days, temperatures dipped below the 104°F (40°C) mark.

  • Maximum temperature: 102.6°F (39.2°C)
  • Minimum temperature: 83.1°F (28.4°C)
  • Humidity levels: 52% (max), 33% (min)

Meteorologists say that continued cloud cover and wind activity could further moderate daytime temperatures, offering intermittent relief from extreme heat conditions.

🔄 Weather to Remain Unstable

Experts expect fluctuating weather patterns over the next several days, with alternating phases of heat, cloud cover, and rainfall. If rainfall continues across wider parts of Delhi during the day, combined with sustained winds, residents can expect a noticeable dip in temperatures and reduced heat intensity.
