India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a high-energy election rally in Purba Bardhaman on Saturday, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would secure a decisive mandate in the state.

Addressing supporters, Shah claimed that the BJP would win 110 seats in the first phase of voting, predicting a major political shift in the state. He added that the party would celebrate victory by offering the traditional “Sita Bhog” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Strong Electoral Claims and Attack on TMC

Shah intensified his criticism of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of misgovernance and alleging that the state has suffered under its leadership.

He stated that:

  • The BJP is poised to form the next government in West Bengal
  • The TMC has failed to implement key policies such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)
  • The BJP would ensure citizenship for members of the Matua community if elected

Law and Order Allegations

During his speech, Shah raised concerns about law and order, alleging that women in the state have faced increasing insecurity over the past decade.

He referred to multiple incidents across the state to support his claims and asserted that a BJP-led government would ensure stronger safety measures. These allegations were made in a political context and reflect the party’s campaign narrative ahead of the elections.

Promises to Matua Community and Voters

Highlighting the concerns of the Matua community, Shah said they no longer need to live in fear, promising citizenship rights under the CAA framework if BJP comes to power.

He also warned against alleged attempts to influence voters during polling and called for peaceful participation in the democratic process.

Strong Statements on Infiltration and Governance

Shah accused the state government of allowing illegal infiltration and fostering what he described as a “syndicate system” affecting construction and daily life.

He pledged that a BJP government would:

  • Take strict action against illegal infiltration
  • Reform administrative systems
  • Ensure transparent governance

These statements are part of the BJP’s broader election messaging and have been strongly contested by the ruling party.

Welfare Promises and Economic Measures

Outlining the party’s vision, Shah announced several proposed welfare measures if BJP forms the government:

  • Free bus travel for women
  • ₹21,000 financial assistance for pregnant women
  • Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy
  • ₹2,000 monthly support for widows, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities
  • Implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission benefits for state employees
  • ₹3,000 monthly financial assistance for women and unemployed youth

Political Rhetoric Intensifies

Shah also referenced national issues and ideological debates, including the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, contrasting it with the policies of the state government.

His remarks reflect the high-stakes political climate in West Bengal, where both ruling and opposition parties are intensifying their campaigns ahead of elections.
