INVC NEWS New Delhi — The revered Amarnath Yatra, one of the holiest pilgrimages in Sanatan Dharma, is set to commence on July 3, 2025, and conclude on August 9, 2025. Known for its spiritual significance and physical rigor, this 37-day journey draws thousands of devotees every year to the sacred Amarnath Cave, where the naturally-formed ice Shivling, known as Baba Barfani, is worshipped.

The registration process for Amarnath Yatra 2025 began on March 15, allowing pilgrims from across India and abroad to prepare for the sacred trek. The annual pilgrimage is organized under the supervision of the Amarnath Shrine Board, which holds detailed planning meetings to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra.

Why the Amarnath Yatra Holds Deep Spiritual Meaning

Hindu scriptures describe the Amarnath cave as the site where Lord Shiva narrated the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati. According to belief, undertaking this pilgrimage with devotion cleanses one of all sins and paves the path to moksha (liberation). It’s also said that visiting Baba Barfani yields the same merit as visiting 23 other holy pilgrimage sites.

The Shivling in Amarnath is not man-made — it forms naturally each year due to the freezing of water droplets. Fascinatingly, its size fluctuates based on the lunar cycle, adding a mystical element to the divine experience.

Important Dates and Traditions

The Amarnath Yatra begins annually on the full moon day of the Ashadh month and ends on the Raksha Bandhan full moon day in Shravan month. This period is believed to be the time when Lord Shiva first arrived at the cave, making it highly auspicious for darshan.

One of the most iconic traditions of the pilgrimage is the Chhari Mubarak — a holy mace symbolizing Lord Shiva, which is ceremoniously carried to the cave. This ritual also marks the culmination of the Yatra.

Final Word

With the 37-day Amarnath Yatra 2025 set to begin on July 3, preparations are already in full swing. Pilgrims who embark on this journey not only face physical challenges but also seek profound spiritual elevation by paying homage at the sacred cave of Baba Barfani.
