Amarnath Yatra 2026 Draws Over 85,000 Pilgrims in Four Days as Devotion Remains Strong Despite Rain

Amarnath Yatra 2026 has witnessed an overwhelming response from devotees, with 85,779 pilgrims offering prayers at the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine within the first four days of the annual pilgrimage. According to officials, 28,818 pilgrims completed the holy cave darshan on Monday alone, reflecting the continued surge in participation despite intermittent heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The annual pilgrimage, which began on July 3, is progressing smoothly under extensive security and logistical arrangements put in place by the administration.

Pilgrims Continue Journey Despite Challenging Weather

Heavy rain affected several parts of the Kashmir Valley on Monday, but it did little to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of devotees.

Pilgrims continued their ascent to the 3,880-meter-high Amarnath Cave Shrine through both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes to seek blessings of Baba Barfani, the naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam revered by millions of Hindu devotees.

Authorities said all pilgrims who traveled via the Baltal route safely returned to the Baltal Base Camp by Monday evening after completing their pilgrimage.

Baltal Route Emerges as Preferred Return Path

Officials noted that many pilgrims who begin their journey from the traditional Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam are choosing to return through the Baltal route after completing the darshan.

While the Pahalgam route generally takes three to four days to return to the base camp, the Baltal route allows many pilgrims to reach the base camp on the same day, making it a faster and more convenient option for the return journey.

The flexibility of the Baltal route has contributed to smoother movement of pilgrims while helping manage the increasing footfall.

Religious Fervor Visible Across the Pilgrimage Route

Pilgrimage camps and transit points remain crowded as thousands of devotees from across India continue arriving each day.

Both the Baltal Base Camp and the Nunwan Base Camp are witnessing a steady influx of pilgrims, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion throughout the pilgrimage corridor.

Officials expect the number of pilgrims to continue rising over the coming days as more registered devotees join the annual yatra.

Administration Provides Comprehensive Facilities

Authorities have established extensive arrangements to ensure a safe and comfortable pilgrimage experience.

Facilities available along both routes include:

  • Medical assistance centers
  • Emergency response teams
  • Drinking water facilities
  • Sanitation services
  • Resting shelters
  • Transportation support where applicable

Several social and religious organizations have also established community kitchens (langars) at multiple locations, offering free meals to pilgrims throughout the journey.

Additionally, thousands of tents have been installed from Baltal and Nunwan to the holy cave to accommodate pilgrims during their stay.

Weather Advisories Issued Through Public Address Systems

Given the unpredictable weather conditions in the Himalayan region, authorities are providing regular weather updates through public address systems at both base camps.

Pilgrims are being advised to monitor weather conditions before beginning their trek and to follow official instructions to ensure their safety.

The administration said timely weather information has become an important part of overall pilgrimage management, particularly during periods of rainfall.

Four-Tier Security Cover in Place

A comprehensive four-layer security arrangement has been implemented across the pilgrimage route.

Security deployment includes:

  • Indian Army personnel stationed in high-altitude areas and along trekking routes.
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) securing both base camps.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Police assisting with crowd management, traffic regulation, and law enforcement.
  • Continuous surveillance and coordination among security agencies to ensure a safe pilgrimage environment.

Officials said security measures have been strengthened to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims while maintaining public safety.

Authorities Urge Pilgrims to Follow Registration Schedule

The administration has appealed to devotees to undertake the pilgrimage only on their allotted registration dates.

With large crowds arriving every day, officials clarified that unregistered pilgrims or those arriving before their scheduled date will not be permitted to proceed toward either the Baltal or Nunwan base camps.

The measure is intended to regulate pilgrim flow, reduce congestion, and maintain safety along the mountainous routes.

Long Queues at Registration Centers in Jammu

Meanwhile, Jammu is witnessing a continuous influx of pilgrims arriving from different parts of the country.

Long queues were reported Tuesday morning at registration and token distribution centers, including:

  • Tawi Riverfront
  • Ram Mandir
  • Purani Mandi
  • Geeta Bhawan

Thousands of devotees reached Jammu through trains, buses, and private vehicles to begin their spiritual journey.

Officials reiterated that valid registration remains mandatory, and only registered pilgrims will be allowed to continue toward the holy cave shrine.

Pilgrimage Continues Under Tight Monitoring

With favorable pilgrim participation, comprehensive logistical support, and multi-layered security arrangements, Amarnath Yatra 2026 continues to progress smoothly despite challenging weather conditions.

Authorities are closely monitoring weather forecasts, crowd movement, and route conditions while ensuring that medical services, accommodation, transportation, and emergency response systems remain fully operational throughout the pilgrimage season.

As thousands more devotees are expected to arrive in the coming days, officials continue to urge pilgrims to follow safety advisories, travel only on their designated dates, and cooperate with security personnel for a safe and orderly pilgrimage.
