Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Sunday through the 129th episode of his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, reflecting on India’s achievements in 2025 and emphasizing cultural pride, youth participation, and the nation’s rich heritage.
The Prime Minister said the accomplishments of 2025 have given the country renewed confidence and urged citizens to stay connected to India’s historical roots.
Preserving India’s Heritage and Unsung Heroes
PM Modi stressed the importance of remembering India’s freedom fighters and passing their stories on to future generations. He recalled the launch of a special website during the 75th anniversary of Independence, which includes a section dedicated to “Unsung Heroes.” He encouraged citizens to explore the platform to learn about lesser-known contributors to India’s freedom struggle.
Tribute to Freedom Fighter Parvati Giri
With India set to celebrate its 77th Republic Day next month, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Odisha’s freedom fighter Parvati Giri, whose birth centenary will be observed in January 2026. He noted that she joined the Quit India Movement at the age of 16 and later devoted her life to social service and tribal welfare, establishing several orphanages. PM Modi described her life as a lasting source of inspiration.
Growing Interest in Tamil Language
PM Modi highlighted growing enthusiasm for the Tamil language among children and youth in India and abroad. He mentioned a Tamil Day celebration in Fiji aimed at connecting younger generations with Indian culture. He also referred to the fourth Kashi Tamil Sangamam, where special emphasis was placed on learning Tamil, including outreach programs in more than 50 schools in Varanasi.
Buddhist Stupa Remains Found in Kashmir
The Prime Minister spoke about recent archaeological discoveries in Jehanpora, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. Scientific studies using drone and ground mapping revealed that small mounds in the area were remains of ancient structures. Archival images from a French museum later confirmed the presence of Buddhist stupas, highlighting Kashmir’s historically rich and diverse cultural identity.
Youth Reconnecting With Tradition
PM Modi expressed satisfaction that despite rapid technological change, young Indians are staying connected to cultural traditions. He cited initiatives like Geetanjali IISc, a student-led classical music movement at the Indian Institute of Science, which has grown into a global community. He also praised the success of a Kannada language school in Dubai, now attended by over 1,000 learners.
Youth Innovation Through Smart India Hackathon
Highlighting opportunities for young innovators, the Prime Minister praised the Smart India Hackathon, where students worked on over 270 problem statements across 80 government departments. He said participants offered practical solutions related to traffic management, digital banking in villages, cybersecurity, and agricultural challenges. PM Modi encouraged more youth to participate in future hackathons.
