December 2025 has turned into one of the strongest box-office months for Bollywood, driven overwhelmingly by Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller Dhurandhar, which continues to rewrite records and dominate theatrical screens nationwide.

Dhurandhar’s Historic Box Office Run

Released on December 5, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has emerged as the biggest Hindi film of the year. In just 13 days, the film has crossed ₹450 crore net in India and ₹600 crore worldwide, with trade projections now eyeing a ₹1,000 crore lifetime haul.

Set against the backdrop of espionage and Karachi’s underworld, the film blends high-stakes action with political intrigue. Alongside Ranveer Singh’s restrained and intense performance, the film features a powerful ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan.

Critics have praised the film’s direction, cinematography, background score, and action design, though some flagged its 214-minute runtime and pacing issues. Despite that, Dhurandhar delivered the biggest second weekend ever for a Hindi film and recorded the highest second Monday collection, surpassing even Pushpa 2.

Buoyed by the massive response, the makers have already announced Dhurandhar: Part 2 – Revenge, slated for release in 2026.

Other December Releases Face Tough Competition

Comedy sequel Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, starring Kapil Sharma, released on December 12 but has struggled to gain momentum, collecting around ₹10 crore so far amid the overwhelming dominance of Dhurandhar.

Meanwhile, the spotlight is now shifting to the Christmas release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, a romantic comedy starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. The film’s trailer, launched today, has generated positive buzz for its light-hearted romance, family drama, and festive appeal. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25.

Ikkis Postponed to Avoid Box Office Clash

The much-anticipated patriotic war drama Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, has been postponed from December 25 to January 1, 2026. The decision was taken to avoid a clash with Dhurandhar and Hollywood’s major release Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19).

Ikkis marks the theatrical debut of Agastya Nanda and features Dharmendra in his final on-screen role, portraying the father of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film tells the untold true story of the 1971 Battle of Basantar.

OTT Buzz Adds to the Festive Mix

Adding to the season’s entertainment spread, the horror-comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has premiered on Prime Video following its theatrical run, drawing strong streaming traction.

A Packed Festive Season for Theaters

With action spectacles, comedy sequels, romantic entertainers, patriotic dramas, and major OTT releases, December 2025 has kept cinema halls packed, marking a strong year-end resurgence for Bollywood after a relatively quiet first half of the year.
