Los Angeles , December 15, 2025 : Walt Disney Animation Studios has scored a massive global box office triumph as Zootopia 2 officially crossed the $1.5 billion worldwide gross, becoming the fastest PG-rated animated film in history to reach the milestone. The sequel achieved the feat in just 17–19 days after release, setting a new benchmark for family entertainment in Hollywood.

According to the latest global box office updates on December 14, Zootopia 2 has earned approximately $1.136 billion from international markets, surpassing the entire lifetime global and overseas collections of the original 2016 Zootopia. The film is directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore and brings back beloved characters voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy Hopps) and Jason Bateman (Nick Wilde), with pop icon Shakira returning as Gazelle.

The film’s success has been powered by strong holiday-season attendance, repeat family viewings, and premium-format performances, including $56.6 million from IMAX screens worldwide. Zootopia 2 is now the second Hollywood film of 2025 to cross the $1.5 billion mark, following Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, and the third global release overall, alongside China’s blockbuster Ne Zha 2.

Industry analysts note that the film’s box office dominance highlights a broader 2025 trend, where animated and family-oriented films have significantly outperformed superhero and adult-skewed releases. The milestone also reinforces Disney’s ongoing recovery at the global box office and proves that sequels to strong intellectual properties continue to be among the safest and most lucrative bets in modern cinema.
