Ahead of Meeting Modi, Muizzu Reassures India on Maldives-China Relations

New Delhi : Before meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu addressed India’s concerns about the Maldives’ growing relationship with China. He made efforts to reassure India that these expanding ties with China would not undermine India’s security interests.

During his first official visit to New Delhi, President Muizzu highlighted that while the Maldives continues to enhance its cooperation with various countries, including China, it is committed to ensuring that any decisions made do not negatively impact the security and stability of the region. He emphasized that India remains a critical partner and ally, and that defense cooperation between the two nations will always be prioritized.

Muizzu reassured that the Maldives’ strategic relationship with India is based on mutual respect and shared goals, which will continue to drive both countries forward in promoting regional security.
