Weather Report: Snow and Rain to Return to the Hills From Tomorrow, Dense Fog in Plains; Delhi Weather to Shift Again
A fresh western disturbance is set to impact North India beginning January 22, bringing rain and snowfall in the Himalayan states, while the northern plains will experience fog, light rain, and strong winds, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather pattern is expected to undergo significant changes across the northwest region.
Western Disturbance to Bring Snow and Rain
Continuous western disturbance activity will trigger precipitation across the western Himalayan range over the next seven days.
Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad: Light to moderate rain and snowfall on 21–22 January
Kashmir Valley: Heavy snowfall likely on 22–23 January
Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand (higher altitudes): Snowfall expected on 23 January
Plains of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan may see light rain over the next 2–3 days.
Warning for Strong Winds and Lightning
IMD has issued warnings for 40–50 km/h winds during snowfall and rain on 23 January in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and nearby regions, along with possible lightning.
Thunderstorms, rain, and lightning are also likely in:
Himachal Pradesh: 22–23 January
Uttarakhand: 23 January
Temperature Drops in the Hills
Cold intensified across the Himalayan belt on Tuesday:
Srinagar: –3.4°C (down from –1.2°C the previous day)
Sonamarg: Coldest at –6.2°C
Himachal Pradesh: Night temperatures below 5°C at 17 locations, including Shimla
Dense Fog Across North India
Very dense fog continued to blanket parts of northern states:
Haryana & Western Rajasthan: Visibility dropped below 50 meters on Tuesday morning
Punjab: Dense fog likely till 21 January, with very dense fog expected on 22 January
Haryana & Chandigarh: Dense fog alert till 21 January
