Trump Urges Allies to Secure Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Iran Tensions
Amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, U.S. President Donald Trump has called on major global powers to deploy naval warships to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.
In a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said several countries are preparing to work with the United States to ensure that shipping through the narrow waterway remains safe and uninterrupted.
Warning of Escalated Military Action
Trump warned that if Iran attempts to disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would intensify military operations along Iran’s coastline.
According to the White House, U.S. officials are also considering a proposal to offer up to $20 billion in insurance guarantees to protect ships navigating the strategic sea route.
Call for International Naval Support
The U.S. president said that several major economies depend heavily on the shipping route and should participate in efforts to maintain its security.
He specifically mentioned countries including:
China
France
Japan
South Korea
United Kingdom
Trump said coordinated international naval deployments would make it difficult for Iran to disrupt maritime traffic in the region.
Concerns Over Potential Iranian Actions
Trump claimed the United States had already significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities but warned that the country could still attempt limited attacks.
He said possible threats could include:
Drone strikes
Naval mines in shipping lanes
Missile attacks on passing vessels
Such actions could pose risks to commercial ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, which handles a large share of the world’s oil shipments.
Possible Deployment of U.S. Marines
Another option reportedly under consideration is the deployment of approximately 2,500 U.S. Marines from Japan to the region.
Although the plan has not been officially confirmed, reports suggest the troops could arrive within two weeks and would focus on maritime security missions, including providing protection to commercial vessels.
Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is widely regarded as one of the most strategically important maritime chokepoints in the world.
A significant portion of global oil exports passes through this narrow waterway. Any disruption to shipping in the area could have serious consequences for global energy markets, trade flows, and economic stability.
Global Markets Watching Closely
As tensions continue to rise in the region, governments and energy markets around the world are closely monitoring developments.
Security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to remain a key factor influencing global oil prices and shipping operations in the coming weeks.
