PM Modi Holds Key Bilateral Meetings at G7 Summit 2026

EVIAN, France — June 17, 2026

PM Modi G7 meetings drew wide attention at the Evian summit as the Indian prime minister used the G7 outreach session to argue that trust is the foundation of strong international partnerships. The Prime Minister’s Office said Modi addressed the outreach session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity,” while Reuters reported that India was among the partner countries invited to the summit alongside South Korea, Kenya and Brazil.

Modi told the gathering that the modern world is more interconnected than ever and that energy, food, health, cyber and economic security are deeply linked. He warned that trade and technology are increasingly being used for narrow interests, creating a trust deficit in global affairs. In his remarks, he called on nations to rebuild transparency and confidence in their partnerships after the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The prime minister also highlighted India’s preferred model of cooperation, pointing to initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, the Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The PMO said Modi emphasized that partnerships should move beyond a donor-recipient mindset and instead rest on solidarity, equal ownership and capacity building.

The summit also gave Modi a busy schedule of bilateral meetings. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on June 16 and with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on June 17. The Indian and Canadian leaders discussed their bilateral relationship in Evian, while the UK and UAE meetings focused on strengthening cooperation across sectors and deepening the India-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership.

Live summit coverage also indicated further bilateral talks with leaders from Kenya, Japan, Egypt and South Korea, underscoring India’s active diplomatic footprint at the G7. Reuters noted that the summit agenda included Ukraine, the Middle East, global economic imbalances and artificial intelligence, while Reuters also reported that partner nations such as India were part of the broader discussions in Evian.

Health cooperation was another major theme. India’s state broadcaster reported that the G7, with support from partner countries including India and Brazil, reaffirmed a collective commitment to accelerate the global fight against cancer, with a focus on prevention, early diagnosis, research collaboration and access to quality healthcare. The same update said India, Egypt, Kenya and South Korea also joined the appeal for a coordinated response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

The overall message from Evian was clear: India is using high-level diplomacy to shape global conversations on trust, development, health and security. By combining multilateral outreach with tightly focused bilateral engagement, Modi projected India as a country that is not only present at the table, but actively helping define the agenda
