Donald Trump’s Fiery Speech at WEF Davos 2026

Davos | January 21, 2026

The US President Donald Trump delivered a fiery and controversial address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, declaring that “no country except the United States can save Greenland”, reigniting his long-standing push for American strategic control over the Arctic territory.

Speaking before global political and business leaders, Trump touched on issues ranging from European security to US–China trade tensions, while making sweeping claims about his foreign policy achievements.

Trump Claims He Stopped India–Pakistan Conflict in 2025

Trump once again asserted that he single-handedly halted the May 2025 India–Pakistan armed escalation, saying:

“I stopped eight wars in one year—including the conflict between India and Pakistan. And I will stop the bloody war in Ukraine as well.”

Trump has made similar claims before, though neither New Delhi nor Islamabad has officially confirmed US intervention as the decisive factor.

“Only America Can Save Greenland”: Trump’s Strategic Argument

Defending his renewed interest in Greenland, Trump said:

“Greenland is a massive, almost entirely uninhabited land positioned dangerously between the US, Russia, and China. Rare earth minerals make it even more vital today.”

He argued that American control is essential for strategic national security and international stability, adding:

“It is part of North America. It is our region. And it is a critical US national security interest.”

He accused Denmark—Greenland’s administrative authority—of being “ungrateful,” referencing America’s World War II military role in the region.

Calls Denmark ‘Ungrateful’ in Fiery Remark

Trump said:

“We saved Greenland and kept our enemies out of our hemisphere. After the war we returned it to Denmark—what a mistake. And now they are so ungrateful.”

His comments revived debates about his earlier push to buy Greenland, a proposition Denmark had publicly rejected.

Trump Slams China: “Foolish Europeans Buy Their Windmills”

Taking aim at China’s dominance in renewable energy manufacturing, Trump said:

“China makes all the windmills, but I don’t see any in China. They sell them to foolish Europeans and make billions.”

He further attacked wind turbines, claiming they “kill birds” and “destroy natural landscapes.”

The remarks were delivered during a separate World Health Organization (WHO) session held alongside WEF.

Massive Security, But Protests Erupt Outside Davos Venue

Despite extraordinary security measures, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Davos Congress Center to protest Trump’s arrival and address.
Long queues formed hours before his speech, reflecting heightened security and global curiosity.

Trump landed in Switzerland earlier in the day aboard Air Force One, arriving in Zurich before flying to Davos for meetings with business leaders and world officials.

Criticizes Europe: “Some Places Are Unrecognizable”

In his speech, Trump issued a grim warning about Europe’s direction:

“Europe is not going the right way. Some places aren’t even recognizable anymore.”

Opening his WEF address, he greeted the audience with:

“So many friends… and a few enemies.”

He claimed Americans were “very happy” to have him back, stating:

“Two years ago, the US was a dead country. Now we are alive again.”

Comments on Trade, Venezuela, and Global Economy

Trump reiterated his plan to impose higher tariffs on foreign countries to “compensate for damage done to the United States.”

He touted his trade agreements and criticized Venezuela’s past economic policies:

“Venezuela was once amazing. They ruined themselves with bad policies. They wanted peace after the attack. They will make more money in six months than they would in six years.”
