The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will question Tamil actor and TVK party chief Thalapathy Vijay for a second time on January 19 in connection with the Karur stampede case, which claimed dozens of lives in September 2025. Vijay had appeared before the agency on Monday for nearly six hours of interrogation.
The CBI summoned Vijay again as part of its expanded investigation. While the agency initially requested his presence immediately after the first session, Vijay sought another date citing the Pongal festival, following which the interrogation was scheduled for January 19.
CBI Questions Multiple Officials
Alongside Vijay, the CBI also questioned former Tamil Nadu ADGP S. Davidson Devasirvadam on Monday. Several TVK party office-bearers, Vijay’s personal driver, and multiple police officers have already been examined as part of the probe.
What Is the Karur Stampede Case?
The tragic incident took place on September 27, 2025, during a TVK party public meeting in Karur, Tamil Nadu. A sudden rush in the crowd led to a massive stampede, resulting in at least 41 deaths and injuring over 110 people.
Following widespread public outrage, the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to take over the case.
Vijay Had Apologized After the Tragedy
A day after the disaster, Vijay issued a public apology through social media, expressing grief and extending condolences to the families of the victims. Despite his statement, criticism grew online, with several users holding him responsible for the mismanagement that led to the tragic loss of lives.
With the next round of questioning scheduled, the case continues to attract national attention, especially with Vijay’s increasing political visibility ahead of major political developments in Tamil Nadu.
