SIT Chandigarh arrested fake journalist

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Chandigarh Police headed by Sh. Anil Joshi, DSP, supervised by Sh. Naunihal Singh, IPS, SSP/UT, Chandigarh has arrested one Bhupinder Singh S/o Sh. Jagir Singh r/o House No. 26 Sector-33, Chandigarh, Proprietor Citran Group International (immigration business) SCO No. 94-95, Sector- 34-A, Chandigarh, who claimed to be self-styled Bureau Chief (Press) Channel-2, in case FIR No. 404 dated 17.08.12 u/s 420, 506 IPC and 24 Immigration Act Police Station Sector-34, Chandigarh. The complainants namely 1) Sh. Jaswant Singh S/o Sh. Harpal Singh , r/o Village Galwati Distt Patiala, Punjab, 2) Gurdeep Singh r/o Village Rohti Basta Singh , Distt Patiala, Punjab and 3) Gurmeet Singh S/o Sh. Mewa Singh Village Galbati Distt Patiala, Punjab alleged that they were cheated by Bhupinder Singh to the tone of Rs. 10.20 lacs for sending them on work permits to Canada in the year 2010, but he neither sent them Canada nor returned their money. During interrogation/ search of his residence as well as of his office, some indiscriminating documents have been recovered. Further during the search of his office, it has been found that he had opened his office in the name of Electronic media Channel-2, having its head office, at Opposite  andhir Nagar, near Police Station Model Town Ludhiana, Punjab. But on verifying from the head office of Channel-2, its director informed that neither Bhupinder Singh is working as reporter nor as Bureau Chief of Channel-2. During search the following recoveries have been effected from the office/residence of accused Bhupinder Singh by the SIT:-  ID card and visiting cards in the name of  hupinder Singh of Channel-2 of tri-city. But the Director of Channel-2 disclosed that Bhupinder Singh has no concern with this Channel. • 194 visiting cards of press have recovered from him, in which he showed himself as journalists and president of Union Journalist of National News Channel, but he had not passed any journalism course. • 137 visiting cards of GNN News, showed himself as  Bureau Chief of National  news channels, but could not produce any authorization letter from the concerned channel. • 91 visiting cards of press, in which he showed himself as Bureau of Chadhdikala Time TV, 7-Star GGS, Focus TV news of National news channel, but could not produce any authorization letter from the concerned channel. • 88 visiting cards, in which he showed himself as President Union of Journalist (Regd), but no journalist association has nominated as president of union. On  verification it has been found that he also could not produce any document, in this regard.

•• A DDR No. 48 dated 02.04.2012, lodged in Police Station Sector-34, regarding loss of his passport. But during search SIT  recovered his said passport from his residence. He deliberately and knowingly lodged false DDR regarding loss of his
passport. • Some blanks letter heads/pads of 7-Star GGS-Today an electronic media channel. • One Accreditation Card-2012, issued to Bhupinder Singh by the DPR, Chandigarh  Administration, but during interrogation it has been found that 7-Star GGS-Today had never given any authority or authorization to Bhupinder Singh. Further, on verification from the head office of this channel, they have given in writing that this
channel had been closed for the last 2-years.   9 2-FIRs were registered against him :-FIR No. 146 dated 27.05.1999 u/s 420 IPC PS Sector-34, Chandigarh registered against Bhupinder Singh on the complaint of the then PRO, office of RPO/
Chandigarh with the allegation that he took money from one Harkesh Singh of Ambala Haryana by promising him to provide his passport within a week. • FIR No. 344, dated 10.06.2011 u/s 406, 419, 420, 467, 468, 506 IPC, PS Assandh, Distt Karnal, Haryana registered against him on the complaint of Sh. Inderjit Singh and Pargat Singh, with the allegation that they were cheated by the accused to the tone of Rs 8 lacs.
During interrogation, it has also come into light that in the shadow of electronic media, accused Bhupinder Singh be-fooled the people to arrange them jobs in media,
training of news reading, camera editing, light directions, production scripts etc. while giving such ads, he never gave his office address but only gave his mobile numbers. In this regard some receipts of Channel-2 regarding such ads have also been recovered.
Moreover, 4-persons have contacted us and disclosed that they were interviewed by accused Bhupinder Singh for job in Channel-2.

Chandigarh Police respects the media. Hence, it is our special appeal to all the media persons to kindly help the Chandigarh Police to avoid any security lapse or any fraud by becoming fake journalist.

However, we are also going to write to the DPRO, Chandigarh Administration, to confirm the authenticity of Accreditation Card issued to Bhupinder Singh as well as other reporters so that in future, this may not be happened and hope that you will cooperate for this exercise.

However, investigation is going on.
