New Delhi – : Kapil Sibal, a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, has directed criticism towards the BJP government, questioning its commitment to the slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All). The government is being accused of maintaining silence regarding the recent wrestlers’ protest and failing to take action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who has been alleged of sexual harassment by the wrestlers.
Sibal, a senior advocate representing the protesting wrestlers in the Supreme Court, expressed his discontent on Twitter, suggesting that the lack of action against Brij Bhushan Singh sends a clear message to those investigating the matter. Sibal highlighted the absence of arrests made in connection with the allegations, pointing out the silence of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, BJP, and RSS. Taking a dig at the government’s slogan, Sibal remarked that it seems to be “Brij Bhushan’s support” rather than support for everyone.
The criticism from Sibal followed demands from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan Singh. Notably, Sibal, who previously served as a Union minister during the UPA-1 and UPA-2 governments, resigned from the Congress in May of last year. He was subsequently elected as an independent member of the Rajya Sabha with the support of the Samajwadi Party (SP). Recently, he launched the non-electoral platform Insaaf, aiming to fight against injustice.
The incident surrounding the wrestlers’ protest and the allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh has triggered a heated political debate, with Sibal’s criticism highlighting the government’s perceived inaction in addressing the issue. The call for accountability and swift action is intensifying, putting pressure on the authorities to respond effectively and address the concerns raised by the protesting wrestlers.
