The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for eight states, including Central Maharashtra, Gujarat, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Andhra Pradesh is particularly affected, with approximately six lakh people displaced due to extreme weather conditions.

  1. Flood Impact in Andhra Pradesh:
    • Displacement: Around 600,000 people have been displaced.
    • Response: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, under the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is in Vijayawada assessing the situation and coordinating relief efforts. The central government has promised comprehensive assistance.
    • Water Supply: Efforts are underway to restore water supply, with drinking water being delivered through tankers to affected areas. Cleanup operations are in progress as floodwaters recede.

    • Canal Breach: The Baruwali canal near Nathusari Chopta in Sirsa broke early Thursday morning, leading to the flooding of over 50 acres of crops. The irrigation department has intervened to control the situation.
