Severe cold wave grips 15 Indian states as temperatures drop below freezing

Severe cold has begun in North India with cold wave in many areas of 15 states and union territories of the country. In the last 24 hours, the minimum temperature in the plains reached 5 to 10 degrees. At some places in Rajasthan and Punjab, the temperature was recorded below zero. Extremely cold winds are blowing in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

Cold wave has hit Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Bihar, Vidarbha of Maharashtra, Saurashtra and most parts of Kutch in Gujarat. Cold has gripped other areas apart from southern and coastal India.

The minimum temperature in the country’s capital Delhi and NCR has also dropped by 1 degree. Minimum temperatures between 6 and 8 degrees were recorded at different places in the capital, which is 1 to 3 degrees below normal. Maximum temperatures remained close to normal. Cold winds blew at a speed of 20 kmph on Friday and Saturday.

The weather department has issued a warning of severe cold wave in entire North India including Jammu and Kashmir, UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chandigarh for three days. According to meteorologist Dr. Soma Sen Rai, the temperature may rise again after December 17.

Temperature in Pahalgam, Kashmir reached -8.4 degrees .Kashmir is in the grip of severe cold. Cold wave warning has been issued in the valley for the next three days.
Pahalgam was the coldest place in the valley on Saturday. The temperature in Srinagar was -4.6 degrees and in Gulmarg it was -7.6 degrees.

Cold wave has hit most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Bihar, Vidarbha of Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch of Gujarat. Cold has gripped other areas besides southern and coastal India. According to the Meteorological Department, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains in the last 24 hours was recorded at 0.7 degrees in Adampur, Punjab.

This temperature reached 1.3 degrees in Fatehpur of Sikar district of Rajasthan and 1.4 degrees in Mount Abu. Minimum temperatures were recorded 3-5 degrees below normal in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan and Vidarbha. Minimum temperatures have also dropped in other places. Very dense fog prevailed in some areas of Manipur and Meghalaya in Northeast India and visibility was recorded at 50 to 200 meters. However, there is still relief from dense fog in the plains.
