In a key leadership reshuffle within India’s public sector undertakings (PSUs), Amarendu Prakash has stepped down as Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), following approval from the Ministry of Steel.
The resignation came into effect from April 1, 2026, as confirmed in a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges.
Interim Leadership Appointed at SAIL
Following Prakash’s exit, Krishna Kumar Singh, Director (Personnel) at SAIL, has been given additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director.
As per the Ministry of Steel’s directive, Singh will hold the position for a period of three months (April 2 to July 1, 2026) or until a regular appointment is made, whichever is earlier.
The company also disclosed that Prakash had submitted his resignation earlier on January 2, 2026, which was subsequently approved by the competent authority.
REC Appoints Rajesh Kumar as Director (Finance)
In a parallel development, state-owned REC Limited announced the appointment of Rajesh Kumar as Director (Finance), effective April 2, 2026.
The appointment follows approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on March 25, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Power.
Rajesh Kumar’s Experience and Background
Rajesh Kumar brings over 30 years of experience in public sector finance, particularly in power and infrastructure funding.
His expertise spans:
- Accounting and taxation
- Financial management and auditing
- Project appraisal
- Regulatory compliance
He is a graduate of Shri Ram College of Commerce and holds dual professional qualifications as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Cost and Management Accountant (CMA).
Prior to this elevation, Kumar served as Executive Director (Finance) at REC, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s financial strategy and growth.
