Yash Raj Films (YRF) has reportedly finalized Ranbir Kapoor as the lead antagonist in the highly awaited action franchise sequel Dhoom 4. According to industry sources, the Bollywood star has already begun early preparation for the role, which will feature an intense physical transformation and multiple distinct looks.
YRF, which has been quietly developing the fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise, has locked Kapoor as the central villain—a mastermind thief and high-stakes action lead. This marks the first time the actor will headline the franchise as its primary antagonist.
Production is expected to begin in April 2026 once Kapoor completes work on his upcoming mega-projects, including Love and War and Ramayana. Reports suggest that the actor will undergo a major body transformation and will appear in four different avatars, each designed to elevate the scale of the character.
Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji is currently the frontrunner to direct the film, potentially reuniting the successful Ranbir–Ayan duo after collaborations on Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmāstra.
The Dhoom franchise is also undergoing a fresh reboot, which means the iconic cop duo of Abhishek Bachchan (Jai Dixit) and Uday Chopra (Ali) may not return this time. YRF is planning to introduce a completely new police officer in the lead investigation role, along with a reset cast lineup to modernize the franchise.
With development moving steadily, YRF is reportedly targeting a 2027 theatrical release for Dhoom 4, aiming to deliver one of its biggest action spectacles to date.
