A Long-Lost Bollywood Film Readies for Theatrical Release : One of Bollywood’s most unusual comeback stories is finally reaching audiences. A film starring Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, and Shatrughan Sinha—shot way back in 1989—is now officially set for release after a 37-year delay.
Originally titled Takrao, the film has been renamed Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun and is expected to hit cinemas nationwide in April 2026, according to industry reports.
🎬 Shot in 1989, Released in 2026
The film was completed during the late 1980s but never reached theaters due to a series of unfortunate events. At the time of production, it featured a powerful ensemble cast and was mounted as a mainstream commercial entertainer.
However, the project stalled after personal tragedies in the life of producer Raja Roy—brother of actress Reena Roy—and the untimely death of director Harmesh Malhotra. As a result, the film remained unreleased for decades.
🧠 AI-Assisted Restoration Brings Film Back to Life
To make the decades-old project suitable for modern audiences, the makers have used AI-assisted digital restoration technology.
The film has been:
Remastered in 4K resolution
Upgraded with 5.1 surround sound
Digitally cleaned and color-corrected
Industry experts say this process has helped preserve the original cinematic feel while meeting today’s technical standards.
🎭 Star-Studded Cast From a Bygone Era
In addition to the three lead stars, the film also features:
Anita Raj
Prem Chopra
Late actors Amrish Puri and Jagdeep
For fans of classic Hindi cinema, the release offers a rare chance to see legendary actors together in a film made at the peak of their careers.
