London : The United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak‘s government has introduced new visa rules in the UK from 2024 to reduce the influx of migrants to the united kingdom. In this, sponsorship fees have been increased by more than 55 percent. Anyone seeking sponsorship for a family visa to the United Kingdom, including people of Indian origin, must now have a minimum annual salary of GBP 29,000. Earlier it was GBP 18,600.
Next year this income will be increased to 38,700 GBP. It is the last resort in a package from PM Sunak and Home Secretary James Cleverley. The UK Home Ministry said that this is to reduce legal migration and to ensure that the people coming here do not put a burden on the taxpayer here. We have reached a tipping point with mass migration. There is no simple solution or easy decision that will reduce the numbers to a level acceptable to the British people. I think the principle here is that if people are bringing dependents to this country as part of their family, then they should be able to support them.
Let us tell you that in 2023, about 3 lakh people migrated to the UK. After this the Home Office says that such large immigration will no longer be possible. The Sunak government has tightened a number of visa criteria as part of a package introduced last year. It is now almost impossible for students and care workers to bring family to the UK.
Indians are among the top migrants on skilled work visas – 13,380 Indians migrated to the UK in 2021-22, increasing to 21,837 in 2022-23, an increase of 63 per cent. About 38 per cent of the total visas for main applicants as well as dependents went to Indians, followed by Nigerians at 17 per cent.
