Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a formal ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honor on Sunday at Perdana Putra Building, marking the beginning of the second day of his official visit to Malaysia.
Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally received PM Modi at the administrative capital, underscoring the importance both countries place on their growing bilateral relationship.

Following the ceremonial welcome, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with ministers and official delegations from both countries. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors and strengthening institutional ties.
PM Modi’s Malaysia visit is his first overseas tour of 2026 and his third visit to Malaysia as Prime Minister, highlighting the sustained diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur.

During the bilateral talks, PM Modi described the India–Malaysia partnership as historic, noting that cooperation between the two nations has consistently expanded over the years.

Welcoming PM Modi, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that relations between India and Malaysia are extremely strong. He acknowledged that while certain issues remain under discussion, teams from both sides will work together to resolve them.
Anwar Ibrahim also described the visit as personally significant, expressing optimism that cooperation between the two countries will continue to grow across all sectors in the coming years.
🌏 PM Modi Praises Malaysia’s ASEAN Leadership
PM Modi congratulated Malaysia for its successful chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stating that Malaysia’s leadership has contributed significantly to strengthening India–ASEAN relations.
He noted that India–Malaysia cooperation is expanding rapidly in areas such as:
Agriculture and manufacturing
Clean energy
Semiconductors and advanced technology
Skill development and capacity building
Defense and security cooperation
The Prime Minister emphasized that the true strength of India–Malaysia relations lies in people-to-people ties. He highlighted that nearly three million people of Indian origin living in Malaysia serve as a vibrant bridge between the two nations.
