Bongaon, West Bengal — April 26, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a sharp political message during a campaign rally in Bongaon, West Bengal, warning illegal infiltrators to leave the state before a specified deadline or face action.
Addressing a large gathering ahead of the second phase of the state assembly elections, PM Modi said individuals residing illegally in West Bengal or using forged documents must exit the state and the country before April 29, adding that strict action would follow after May 4.
⚠️ Strong Remarks on Infiltration and Governance
The Prime Minister alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been shielding illegal infiltrators, but asserted that such protection would no longer be possible.
He also launched a broad critique of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government, claiming that the party has moved away from its earlier slogan of “Maa, Maati, Maanush” and failed to deliver on governance.
PM Modi accused the state administration of enabling corruption, syndicate networks, and law-and-order challenges, while alleging that economic distress has forced many residents to migrate.
🗳️ Election Pitch: Call for Change
Framing the election as a decisive moment, PM Modi urged voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), promising what he described as “freedom” from corruption, fear, unemployment, and alleged misgovernance.
He invoked the legacy of Subhas Chandra Bose, appealing to voters to bring change through their ballots.
🚺 Focus on Women and Sandeshkhali Issue
The Prime Minister also referred to incidents in Sandeshkhali, alleging that women were among the most affected under the current administration.
He claimed that ensuring safety and dignity for women would be a priority under a BJP-led government, while criticizing the state government’s response to such incidents.
💰 Welfare Promises Highlighted
During the rally, PM Modi outlined several welfare measures proposed by the BJP for West Bengal:
- Free medical treatment up to ₹500,000
- Medicines at discounted rates through Jan Aushadhi centers
- Free screening and vaccination for major diseases
- Financial support of ₹21,000 during pregnancy
- ₹50,000 assistance for girls’ education
- Annual financial aid of ₹36,000 for women
- 33% reservation for women in government jobs
He said these measures aim to improve healthcare access, education, and economic security for women in the state.
🛕 Outreach to Matua Community
Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited Thakurnagar in North 24 Parganas and offered prayers at a prominent temple associated with the Matua community. The visit is seen as significant given the electoral influence of Matua voters across several constituencies near the India-Bangladesh border.
The Matua Mahasangha, founded in the 19th century by Harichand Thakur, has historically worked toward social reform and upliftment of marginalized communities.
PM Modi also recalled his earlier visit to the temple and paid tribute to community leaders, including Binapani Devi Thakur.
📊 Political Impact
With West Bengal heading into a crucial phase of elections, the Prime Minister’s remarks have intensified the political discourse, with sharp exchanges expected between rival parties in the coming days.
The developments underline the high-stakes nature of the contest, where issues of governance, identity, and welfare remain central to voter sentiment.
